Confidentiality is very important in public health. All of the personal information that the health district receives regarding reportable diseases and conditions is strictly confidential and will not be shared with anyone except the State Department of Health.

In 1996, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) was passed. HIPAA is a federal law that protects the confidentiality of your medical records.
